Introduction

Culturally responsive pedagogy education is what us as teachers will use to teach students the uniqueness of their cultural strengths and weaknesses. This is a good way to have the students learn about something they can connect to. With that, the students get more knowledge on the place they live in. This will also help the students gain more knowledge about the culture, race, and their community and what happens around them that they may have not now about.

History

Culturally responsive pedagogy is able to help the students connect with the community around them and have them make connections. With this topic we choose for this lesson plan is a great way for students to understand what a strike really is, the way people their race or ethnicity have been treated and how it caused them to do what they did. This lesson about the onion strike at Raymondville the students will be able to see the discrimination and racism the people of the same race went through and they could share some of the experiences they had because they were a different race. This will keep the elementary students engaged and wanting to learn more about the community and gain knowledge of the place they live in and would want to know more about it to be more aware and be able to help the community be a better place. By having to connect the lesson with a culturally responsive pedagogy the students will show more interest and the teacher will have less children getting distracted and more engaged and participating in class activities and discussions. With this pedagogy the children will have a more fun way of learning about the Rio Grande Valley compared to something they may have no interest in and the students would be board in class and would get distracted very easily.
